Bretheron Cross Pedestal
Just 100m east of Saint John the Baptist church is the pedestal of Bretherton Cross. It is sunken into the edge of the pavement. The socket for the cross has been filled in with concrete in recent times. |
Sarah Lane Cross Pedestal
Sarah Lane is a short single track lane closed to traffic connecting the main road to Back Lane. The pedestal is next to a sign for a public footpath, on a slight bend in the lane. It was hard to find being buried in the undergrowth and only petruding above the ground by a couple of centimetres. |
Croston Market Cross
Croston Cross is at the junction of Church Street and Town Road and the old packhorse bridge over the River Yarrow, just 100m from Saint Michael and All Angels Church at Croston. The pedestal has chamfered edges with the corners un-chamfered sitting on 3 tiered steps. You can see where metal straps have been used to tie the pedestal to the top step. The cross is modern. As with other market crosses, stocks and water pump were close by. |
